Ideal cars for winter: four models are named
The highest quality cars are equipped with modern technologies that ensure safe driving. When choosing the best model for winter, experts advise paying attention to the key point – all-wheel drive (4WD). This feature makes driving easier, but it doesn't help you brake faster, so the first thing you should do is install a reliable set of winter tires.
Experts have published a rating of the best cars that feel confident on snowy and slippery roads. The list includes pickup trucks, SUVs, sedans, and even convertibles under $40,000 that are well suited for harsh winter climates.
Chevrolet Colorado
Chevrolet Colorado is a reliable mid-size pickup truck produced since 2004. Colorado models replaced the Chevrolet S-10. The base version comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Colorado Base is available with rear-wheel drive only. For comfortable and safe driving, the pickup is equipped with a rearview camera, Teen Driver system, Infotainment 3 infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 6-speaker audio.
Chevy Colorado is the best choice according to Edmunds. Experts say that the Trail Boss model is best suited for winter weather. The cost of the Trail Boss model starts at $37,500.
Ford Bronco
The Bronco is a hybrid drive SUV based on the T6 chassis of the Ford Ranger. The SUV is available in a short three-door version, an elongated version with five seats, and a pickup version. The engines are 2.3 EcoBoost and 2.7 EcoBoost. Along with the "classic" SUVs, the all-wheel drive Ford Bronco Sport (CX430) also debuted in the latest generation. The car is built on the Ford C2 platform, the same as the Ford Escape.
Mazda Mc-5 Miata RF
The Miata sports convertible may not seem like an obvious choice for a cold-weather car, but Edmunds notes that the car is easy to drive in snow on winter tires. The RF version has a hard top that is well-suited for cold conditions. The price starts at $38,195. The only drawback is that the Mazda Mc-5 Miata RF is located low to the ground, which can cause problems during particularly heavy snow drifts.
Subaru WRX
The Subaru WRX is an all-wheel drive sports version of the Japanese Subaru concern's "compact" car, the Subaru Impreza. Subaru is known to cope well with winter conditions, and the WRX sedan is no exception. The premium version costs $35,755. Experts say it's a great choice with impressive grip in all road conditions. Heated side mirrors and a built-in function to protect the wipers from icing are nice bonuses.
