Ideal cars for daily driving: in the U.S. named classic variants

Yulia PoteriankoNews
These autos have proven through years of flawless performance that they are still a good choice to buy.

A car that can be driven every day should be a real workhorse. And here it makes sense to choose among time-tested options.

The American edition of Hot Cars analyzed a lot of classic cars on the secondary market and chose ten options that are worth paying attention to. They will cost inexpensive. And yet these are models that boast years of trouble-free operation and complete driver comfort.

2003-2008 Mercedes-Benz SL Class (R230)

The car was assembled on the chassis of the previous model with front- and rear-wheel drive. That is, it did not have the problems that are inherent in a brand new car. Introduced in 2001, the SL had a sleeker body with improved aerodynamics. It was available in a variety of engine options and would fit any budget.

2005-2010 Ford Mustang (fifth generation/S197)

The fifth-generation Pony Car put an end to the model's controversial image. More aggressive styling on the Ford D2C platform featured MacPherson struts and a three-lever solid rear axle. This Ford Mustang boasted increased durability and had several engine options to suit different needs.

1967-1977 Volkswagen Beetle (Type 1)

No list of classic cars for everyday driving would be complete without the Volkswagen Beetle. This small car that earned iconic status with its unique design and hard work. The air-cooled flat four-cylinder engines can go hundreds of thousands of miles during basic maintenance.

2005-2008 Toyota Corolla (10th generation/E140)

There have been 12 generations of the Toyota Corolla on the market and in that time the model has become the best-selling model in the world. And for good reason. It is a really reliable and safe car. But the tenth generation was special. Externally, the restrained body style will appeal to both hatchback and sedan lovers. Plus, there's a great selection of engines.

1990-1997 Mazda MX-5 (modification for North America)

One of the main advantages is an affordable price. That said, the MX-5 rewrote the rules of the game for sports cars in its day. Yes, it is not the fastest car in the class, but its docility and performance are amazing. And the original design, despite later refinements, is still the benchmark to which all other sports cars are held up.

2005-2015 Porsche 911 (997)

To own this car is the dream of almost all drivers. To create the model, Porsche improved the rear-engine supercar, depriving it of its reputation for being dangerous to drive. Today's 911s are so successful that they are no more difficult to drive than a hatchback. Their six-cylinder engine is one of the most reliable motors in history. Even the base model has become legendary, let alone the 997 variant.

2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro (fifth generation)

Returning to the Camaro's masculine styling was a good move for Chevrolet. Engineers did not repair what is not broken and as a result got an almost trouble-free iron horse. That's why the older models are still in such high price and in demand. Despite the similar appearance, there are many differences under the hood of different configurations. For economical drivers, the 3.6-liter V6 will offer the best fuel economy, while the V8 will impress with power.

2006-2011 BMW 3 Series (fifth generation)

The German automaker is known for two things. First, a near-perfect track record of the most reliable and comfortable cars on the market. Second, the outstanding 3 Series. No other car in this segment has such a reputation for its perfect blend of speed, performance, and appeal.

2006-2011 Honda Civic (eighth generation/USA)

This model may seem understated, but if you're looking for a car that won't let you down, the Civic is a great choice. The eighth generation offered a choice of two base engine options: the smaller RA16/18 unit and the famous K20. Both came with Honda's VTEC system, providing an impeccable balance of economy and power.

1986-1993 Volvo 240 LE

The square design of the Volvo 240 may seem old-fashioned. But its unassuming exterior hides the best of some 100 years of Swedish engineering. Volvo, known for its approach to reducing risks to driver and passengers, has given us seatbelts and introduced side-impact protection systems. And they say about the 240 model that it is able to pass even millions of kilometers.
