Hyundai Ioniq 5 will become even better: what upgrades await the car in 2025
When it comes to electric vehicles, the South Korean Hyundai Ioniq 5 is called one of the best options available on the market today. It looks impressive and has a good range. And it will soon receive a number of updates.
According to Motor1, in the 2025 model year, standard NACS charging and a new off-road XRT modification will be available for the car. This will be the second such model in the lineup after the high-performance Ioniq 5 N. The brand's engineers added a 0.9-inch suspension lift and 18-inch wheels to the car. There is no mention of any additional underbody protection, although given the floor-mounted battery, it is likely that the standard underbody protection will be sufficient for normal use.
Externally, the model features unique front and rear bumpers covered with "pixel camouflage". XRT gets two separate color options: Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl. You will also find a pair of red tow hooks in front, capable of pulling up to 2600 kg.
The company has also published the entry and exit angles - 19.8 degrees and 30.0 degrees, respectively. This is 2.3 degrees and 4.6 degrees better than the standard car. Other changes include special badges, black mirror covers, floor mats, and updated seat upholstery.
The rest of the models in the Ioniq 5 lineup also received some major updates. Two battery sizes have been increased. In the standard package - from 58 kilowatt-hours to 63 kilowatt-hours. For the model with an extended range - from 77.4 to 84 kWh.
The XRT model gets a large battery and two-motor all-wheel drive as standard, which makes sense given its off-road ambitions. Hyundai doesn't mention power output for any of the new Ioniq trims, but given that the last two-motor trim produced 320 horsepower and 604 Newton meters of torque, it looks like the car's capabilities will increase here.
The next biggest change in the Ioniq 5 lineup is a new NACS-style charging port, like Tesla's. The port means access to all 17,000+ Tesla Supercharger stations, effectively doubling the number of fast chargers available to Ioniq 5 owners. Hyundai says it will also include a CCS adapter for each vehicle, making it easier to charge at stations with incompatible connectors.
Hyundai has made many other changes to the Ioniq 5 lineup for the 2025 model year. There are new bumpers, an updated spoiler, more aerodynamically efficient wheels, and three new matte colors. You will find a new climate control layout, USB-C ports, physical seat heating controls, and the long-awaited wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto inside.
