How to remove wax from carpet: the task is tricky but manageable

It is quite difficult to clean wax from any surface, and even more so from soft carpets. If wax gets on a carpet that is placed on a wooden floor, you need to take additional measures to protect the wood.

Before treating the wax residue with a liquid solution, place a plastic bag under the area to be cleaned to protect the floor from moisture. After treatment, make sure the mat is completely dry before removing the bag. Experts have explained how to clean wax from carpet easily and effectively.

How to remove wax from carpet

Do not remove wax while it is still liquid or soft, otherwise it will only penetrate deeper into the carpet fibers.

• Put a few ice cubes in a resealable bag with a tight seal. Place the bag on the carpet on the wax droplets and leave it on for at least 10 minutes.
• When the wax is hard, use the edge of an old credit card, a dull kitchen knife, or a spoon to scrape it off the carpet fibers.
• Remove any remaining wax in the fibers with a vacuum cleaner.

Some of the wax may still be on the carpet fibers. Experts advise taking the following steps to remove it:

• Place at least five layers of white paper towels over the stain.
• Turn on the iron to a delicate heat setting. Do not use a very hot iron as it may melt the carpet fibers.
• Press the paper towel pack to soften the wax. The grease stain should be absorbed into the towels.
• Replace the paper towels and repeat the process as needed.

How to remove traces of dye

If the candle contains dye and the carpet is stained, there are several ways to remove the stain after the wax has disappeared.

For any color or type of carpet. Pour a few drops of alcohol on the stained area and blot with a paper towel. Repeat until the dye is gone.

For any color or type of carpet except wool. Make a paste of powdered oxygen bleach and a little water. Apply the paste to the dye stain and leave it on for at least four hours.

For any type of white carpet. Moisten the stain with hydrogen peroxide, which will act as a bleach to remove the stain.

Shag carpet requires more effort to remove the wax. Repeat the steps several times to make sure you have completely removed the wax from the fibers.
