How to remove mold from silicone seals in 10 minutes: a proven method
Trying to remove mold from silicone seals can be frustrating, but fortunately, there is a natural product that is more effective than store-bought bleach.
We're talking about hydrogen peroxide, which can get rid of mold in 10 minutes without much effort. OBOZ.UA has explained how it works.
Hydrogen peroxide is a liquid consisting of hydrogen and oxygen, which is commonly used as a disinfectant but is very effective in removing mold due to its antibacterial properties.
Aggressive chemical cleaners, such as bleach, cannot penetrate the sealant and are more likely to discolor the silicone and cause it to yellow than to clean it properly.
Hydrogen peroxide is so useful because it can penetrate the tiny pores of silicone sealant to remove mold and prevent it from growing below the surface layer.
How to remove silicone mold with hydrogen peroxide
All you have to do is take hydrogen peroxide with a three percent concentration, which can usually be found in supermarkets.
Then simply pour the solution into an empty spray bottle and screw on the cap.
Spray a generous amount of hydrogen peroxide onto the moldy silicone caulk, then leave it on for 10 minutes to break down the mold spores.
When the time is up, use a hard-bristled cleaning brush to quickly scrub the silicone sealant and the mold should come off easily. After cleaning, be sure to dry the silicone thoroughly with a clean cloth.
If you don't want the silicone sealant to mold in the future, open a window to let the steam escape and wipe the area after a shower. Mold can only grow in damp places, so if you take a few minutes to make sure the silicone is dry, dampness or mold won't be a problem in your bathroom in the future.
