On hot summer days, when the air temperature rises to unpleasantly high levels, it becomes extremely important to find a way to cool down. This is especially difficult if you don't have air conditioning at home or work.

However, there are many simple and effective methods to keep you cool and comfortable even on the hottest days. The apartment therapy portal writes about them.

4 ways to instantly feel cool without air conditioning

Take a cold bath or shower

Turn your bathtub or shower into an icy refuge by filling the bottom with ice and pouring water as cold as you can. Stay in there as long as you can (but you don't need to stay in there for more than a few minutes) and come out chilled.

Homemade ice water air conditioner

This homemade ice water conditioner works surprisingly well, and it only takes 10 minutes to make. Simply place a bowl of ice water in front of a fan to circulate cooler air. If you don't have ice cubes on hand, you can add other frozen foods, such as frozen vegetable packets, as a last resort.

Cool off using a frozen washcloth

Although it sounds a bit strange, this tip works and will bring some relief, especially when it's too hot at night.

Take a washcloth and soak it in water. Wring it out, shape it into a "U" and put it in the freezer. Once the washcloth is frozen, take it out and wrap it around your neck.

The cooling will quickly spread throughout the body and last long enough for the person to fall asleep.

Use other essentials in the apartment to keep cool

You can use the food in the freezer and put ice packs (or bags of frozen vegetables) on your armpits and groin area if you want to cool down quickly.

"In these areas, large blood vessels are close to the surface," explains Megan Healy, MD, of Temple University Hospital, so your entire body will cool faster if you add cooling packs to the area.
