If you enjoyed a box of chocolates this Valentine's Day, don't rush to throw away the empty packaging.

Gardening expert Simon Akeroyd has revealed on his TikTok a simple, eco-friendly way to reuse old candy boxes to help you grow beautiful flowers and vegetables just in time for the upcoming growing season.

For example, he showed how to turn an empty box, such as a Ferrero Rocher candy box, into a handy seed germinator to give your plants the perfect start.

The process is surprisingly simple. Simon starts by taking the chocolates out of the box. He then reuses the gold lining of the box to create a makeshift seed tray.

After poking small drainage holes in the bottom, Simon fills the tray with peat and sows the seeds of his choice, be they flowers, vegetables or herbs.

The clever trick is that the original chocolate box acts as the perfect germinator for your seeds.

By placing the seed tray back in the box and covering it with the lid, Simon creates a mini greenhouse effect. The warm, humid environment inside the box encourages seed germination, creating the perfect conditions for strong, healthy plants to grow.

Then he places it on a sunny windowsill to start the process and waits for the seeds to germinate.
