How to fertilize geraniums for lush flowering: an easy way

Alina MilsentNews

Geraniums or pelargoniums are one of the most popular and unpretentious indoor plants. It receives most of its nutrients from the soil, but over time, these reserves are depleted. Fertilizing helps to provide the plant with important macro- and microelements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and calcium.

Without proper fertilization, geraniums will become exhausted and frail, the leaves will begin to turn yellow, and the number of flowers will decrease. OBOZ.UA tells you about a simple but very effective way to improve flowering.

An effective solution for geraniums

Experienced florists advise a little-known but very effective remedy for improving flowering – turmeric solution.

Turmeric contains many beneficial compounds, including the active ingredient curcumin, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Although turmeric is not a traditional fertilizer, its solution can help plants in several important processes.

This fertilization promotes healthy roots by helping geraniums better absorb nutrients from the soil.

One of the important benefits of fertilizing geraniums with turmeric is its ability to fight fungal infections. It has natural antimicrobial properties that help prevent the development of fungi and bacteria.

Turmeric contributes to the saturation of leaves and flowers with color. If the plant receives enough nutrients, its leaves become brighter and healthier, and its flowering becomes more abundant and brighter.

The undoubted advantage of this fertilizer is its natural composition. The fertilizer does not contain chemicals and is a mild but effective way of feeding that does not harm the plant.

How to prepare a turmeric solution

  • Take a container and fill it with 1 liter of clean, settled water.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric and mix thoroughly.
  • To enhance the effect, you can add five glycine tablets to the mixture – this amino acid helps the roots absorb nutrients better.

How to water geraniums with turmeric solution

Watering should be done at the root. This is a very rich fertilizer, so you don't need much of it - 3-5 tablespoons per plant is enough.

The procedure should be carried out on already-moistened soil, which will allow the pelargonium to absorb all the necessary substances faster.
