How to fertilize ficus to make it grow faster
Ficus is a popular houseplant known for its thick green leaves. However, growing it can be a challenge even for experienced gardeners.
To ensure the proper development of the plant, you need to take into account not only lighting and watering but also timely fertilization.
When and how to fertilize ficus
Fertilizers should be used only when the plant is healthy. If the leaves or stem show signs of disease, fertilizing can be harmful. It is important that the soil is moist before applying fertilizer - this will prevent a possible "burn" of the roots.
Time after repotting matters
If the ficus has been recently repotted, it is not recommended to fertilize it. The plant needs at least 40 days to adapt to the new soil. During this time, the ficus strengthens its root system, so additional growth stimulants may be unnecessary.
Sugar syrup as a natural fertilizer
One of the easiest and most affordable ways to fertilize the plant is to use a sugar solution. To prepare it, you need to dissolve 0.5 teaspoon of sugar in 500 ml of water. This solution is used to water the plant. Sugar water stimulates the growth of new shoots, improves the color of the leaves and contributes to the overall thickening of the crown.
What else you should know
Fertilizing ficus with sugar syrup is especially effective during the period of active growth, which usually takes place from spring to autumn. In winter, the plant is in a dormant period, so you should be more careful or refrain from fertilizing the plant altogether.
Why proper care is important
Ficus is considered a demanding plant, and its beautiful appearance depends on comprehensive care. Lighting, watering, fertilizing and timely transplantation are key factors that help grow a healthy and stunning plant.
