The inside of the oven door is often overlooked, ignoring the fact that burnt-on dirt can accumulate for years.

So what makes baking soda so effective? Its high pH level reacts with acidic grease and charred food, providing an abrasive but gentle solution to a dirty oven door.

Although using baking soda requires a little more time and effort than using a store-bought oven cleaner, baking soda is an effective, safe, and environmentally friendly alternative to chemicals.

A little baking soda, a sponge and a soft brush is all you need to clean the door while avoiding scratches.

Step-by-step instructions

1. Sprinkle the glass door liberally with baking soda. Then dampen a sponge and rub it over the surface with the baking soda to form a thick paste.
2. The goal is to cover the entire glass oven door with the baking soda paste. If the paste is thick and lumpy, add more water.
3. Allow this mixture to settle on the glass oven door for 30 minutes.
4. Dampen a washcloth again and begin the process of gently scrubbing.
5. Then wipe with a damp sponge to remove the remnants of the baking soda mixture.
