How to choose safe Christmas decorations: what to look for
Anyone who has ever seen a small child or cat react to a Christmas tree will always remember that decorations must be safe. However, safety means not only that they should not break easily and leave sharp fragments behind. It is also important that the balls and garlands are not painted with toxic colors, do not emit harmful gases, etc.
The Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine told us how to choose the right New Year's decorations. With these recommendations, you will definitely be safe.
Don't buy decorations at outdoor markets, in underpasses, etc. This increases the risk that you will come across counterfeit and low-quality products. Give preference to specialized stores and retail chains. In this case, you will also have a chance to challenge a low-quality purchase and get a refund.
Always check all the information about the origin of the jewelry - the name of the manufacturer, the composition of the toy, and ask the seller for documents confirming its quality. Handmade toys may contain toxic substances, such as phenol or lead. Certified decor cannot be.
Pay attention to the quality of the coloring and the smell of the decoration. It should not emit unpleasant odors or crumble. The smell may indicate that the toy emits dangerous gases, and sparkles or paint fragments can get into the respiratory tract or eyes.
Check electric garlands for structural integrity and composition, and ask for all certificates for them. They must be made of fireproof materials. Also, make sure before buying that the garland does not emit an unpleasant odor, the bulbs do not get too hot, and it does not spark anywhere.
The state standard marking on Ukrainian-made decorations will be a guarantee of quality. Pay special attention to this.
