New high-profile details have surfaced in the story of the tragic accident in Dnipro that claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl and injured four other people, including two children. It turned out that one of the defendants in the case, 19-year-old Valerii Oleshchenko, already has a criminal record and is on probation for robbery.

This is stated in the material of OBOZ.UA. In 2024, Oleshchenko was convicted of robbery at a Nova Poshta branch in Kyiv.

He grabbed a parcel with four branded T-shirts worth 141.5 thousand hryvnias and tried to escape. The police detained him on the spot. The court sentenced him to five years in prison, but the sentence was commuted to three years of probation due to "sincere remorse" and compensation for damages. This was confirmed to OBOZ.UA by the Prosecutor's Office of Dnipropetrovs'k region.

"Thus, the suspect in violation of traffic safety rules, which caused the death of the victim (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), was convicted under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery). The violation of traffic safety rules was committed during the probationary period," the prosecutor's office said.

Oleshchenko is a suspect in the fatal accident. However, there is speculation that the accident could have been caused by another BMW passenger, 17-year-old Arseniy Bessonov, the son of a wealthy local businessman. DNA testing should determine who was driving the car at the time of the collision.

There is speculation that Oleshchenko could have taken the blame, as it is quite possible that his friend (or rather his father) in the BMW helped him in the story of the robbery of branded T-shirts.

The accident happened in the evening of December 1 on Naberezhna Zavodska Street. The BMW, which was moving at high speed, crashed into a Ford while making a U-turn. The impact killed a 10-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Ford. The driver and other passengers, including two children, were seriously injured. Oleshchenko is charged under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic rules that resulted in the death of a person). If proven guilty, he faces imprisonment.
