Harvest will be spoiled: what not to plant after zucchini
Sometimes, even with all the efforts, regular watering, and fertilizing, the harvest in the garden grows small and of poor quality. Experienced gardeners say that this may be due to non-compliance with crop rotation rules.
For example, growing a bountiful harvest of zucchini is quite easy – these are unpretentious crops. However, you should not plant them in the same place for two seasons in a row, and many plants will lack nutrients. OBOZ.UA talks about the rules of crop rotation and explains which crops are better not to plant after zucchini.
What can be planted after zucchini
Some plants will be uncomfortable in the place where the zucchini grew, so you should look for another area so as not to be left without a crop.
It is important to alternate vegetables with deep root systems that deplete the soil. You should also make sure that the predecessor plant is not affected by the same diseases that can infect the subsequent crop.
You should be careful with zucchini. The root system does not penetrate too deeply into the soil, so in case of disease, the plant does not infect it, but it takes a lot of nutrients from it.
After the zucchini, you should fertilize the bed well, and you can plant the following year:
- tomatoes
- onions
- garlic
- legumes
- celery
- parsley;
- spicy herbs.
What not to plant
It will be quite difficult to grow large vegetables in the area where zucchini grew.
There is a high risk that such crops will fail:
- peppers
- eggplant
- cabbage
- cucumbers
- pumpkins
- squash.
By the way, it is better not to plant peas near tomatoes. Sweet peppers and legumes are prone to anthracnose, so they will infect each other with this type of fungus. Raspberries should not be planted next to strawberries and cherries.
White cabbage does not grow well in the beds where other varieties of cabbage grew last year, including cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, Peking cabbage, and broccoli.
