Camping destinations in Ukraine

With its diverse landscapes, picturesque views and rich cultural heritage, Ukraine is a great place for camping. Whether you like mountains, forests, lakes, or the sea, we have many beautiful destinations where you can enjoy nature and outdoor activities.

But don't forget that there are restrictions in place to keep you as safe as possible. For example, the areas close to the border with Belarus and Russia, as well as the eastern and southern directions where active hostilities are taking place, will not be available for camping. This means that the choice of locations will temporarily be focused on the western part of the country.

Zakarpattia region

This destination, located in the west of Ukraine, has many great places for outdoor recreation. Here you can visit the unique Synevyr Lake, the Gorgany Mountains, and the Svaliava Lakes. Zakarpattia is known for its unique culture, traditions, and winemaking, so don't miss the opportunity to enjoy not only the beauty of nature but also delicious food and drinks.

The Carpathian Mountains are one of the most popular camping destinations. This mountainous area offers a huge selection of sites located in picturesque valleys, near rivers and lakes. You can place your tent under tall pine trees, enjoy the fresh air and open spaces, and go hiking or cycling.

Hoverla is the highest mountain in the Ukrainian Carpathians, which attracts many tourists. It is a great place to stop with beautiful views.

Lviv region

The Lviv region is not standing aside either. It is home to the incredible Skolivski Beskydy mountain range, where you will find peace and beautiful scenery. It is also worth visiting the lakes Stryi and Yavoriv, where there are camping sites for tourists. Also, the city of Lviv with its rich culture, architecture and coffee shops can be a great place to visit during your trip.

Don't forget about Kamianka-Buzka Park, which is considered a great place to relax. Pitch your tent by the Kamianka River and take in the views from the riverbank. This green area also has several walking routes.

Volyn region

The Shatsk National Natural Park is one of the largest water complexes in Ukraine with many lakes, rivers and islands. There is a wonderful camping site near Lake Svityaz. There are equally good locations near other water bodies. It will be convenient to place your tent here and enjoy nature, swimming, fishing and various sports.

The village of Kamianka, located on the banks of the Styr River, is a great place for camping. Here you will finally feel the much-desired peace and can fully immerse yourself in nature. There are also several forest areas in the vicinity that are perfect for picnics and long walks.

Prypiat-Stokhid National Nature Park, which offers many opportunities for camping, is also worth mentioning. Here you can camp by the banks of the river or Lake Svityaz and enjoy the landscapes and water sports. Don't forget to visit the floodplain forests, home to rare species of birds and wildlife.

Uzhhorod region

Uzhhorod region borders the Carpathians, which makes it a great place for camping. There are two main sites here: the villages of Pylypets and Synevyrska Polyana. This is a great choice for those who want to enjoy incredible scenery, forest walks, and outdoor activities. This destination also offers excursions to mountain lakes and waterfalls.

Ternopil region

Ternopil Lake is a popular camping destination. You can place your tent on the shore of the reservoir and enjoy a beach vacation. There is also a good selection of activities for those who enjoy active tourism, such as kayaking and pedal boating.

Okay, we seem to have decided on the destinations. Now it's time to go through the checklist of what you need to take with you and check before you go.

You should check the weather forecast first as it will help you to know whether you have chosen the right time to travel and what things to take with you. The basic set will include a spacious tent and sleeping bag, a folding knife, a futon, kitchen utensils and dishes, a first aid kit and hygiene products, a flashlight or other lighting, and a change of clothes.

Don't forget to make a detailed list of things you want to take with you and check it before you leave. That way, you'll be ready to enjoy your camping experience to the fullest!
