The winner became known 2 races before the end of the season

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has won the 2024 Formula One World Championship. The 27-year-old Dutchman snached the victory two races ahead of schedule.

At the Las Vegas Grand Prix, he finished fifth, while his main rival Lando Norris of McLaren took sixth place, finally losing his mathematical chances for the title.

For the Dutchman, this is his fourth championship trophy, which allowed him to catch up with Formula 1 legends Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel. Only Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton (seven each) and Juan Manuel Fangio (five) have more titles in the history of the sport.

This was Verstappen's fourth consecutive success - he has won back-to-back titles since 2021. Only Fangio (1954-1957), Vettel (2010-2013), and Hamilton (2017-2020) have previously achieved this feat. The absolute record remains with Schumacher, who became the champion five times in a row in 2000-2004.

In addition, Verstappen joined a narrow circle of drivers who have won four titles with one team. Before him, Hamilton (six with Mercedes), Schumacher (five with Ferrari) and Vettel (four with Red Bull) managed to do so.

Verstappen shared his emotions after winning his fourth Formula 1 world title.

"It’s been a long season and of course we started off amazing, it was almost like cruising, but then we had a tough run. But as a team, we kept it together, we kept working on improvements and we pulled off the win," Verstappen said in an interview with Sky Sports.

The driver admitted that he was proud of the team and appreciated their efforts, "Incredibly proud of everyone, what they have done for me. To stand here as a four-time world champion is something I never thought was possible. I’m feeling relieved in a way but also very proud."

Max emphasized that this season was not easy for him both athletically and personally, "Without a doubt, it was a very difficult season. Sometimes it was difficult on a human level and I had to keep myself in check and stay calm."

Verstappen also compared the current year with the previous one: "What a season. Four times. Thank you, guys. Thank you to everyone. I mean, it was a little bit more difficult than last year, but we pulled through, and we gave it all."
