Fortress on wheels: what are the advantages of the new Skoda Kodiaq Armored
Even civilian cars sometimes need to be armored, for example, to protect important people during transportation. And such modifications are done by special companies that know how to create real tanks from production cars.
According to Top Gear magazine, UTAC Special Vehicles specialists turned a Skoda Kodiaq SUV into such a fortress on wheels. And it is almost impossible to distinguish such a car from an ordinary one. However, at the level of detail, the difference is striking.
For example, armor that cannot be seen by the untrained eye can withstand more than 200 shots of live ammunition. Bulletproof glass and steel panels mounted on the body provide 360-degree protection.
These panels are worth talking about separately. They can not only stop bullets but also protect against grenades and absorb energy from explosives. After all the improvements, the Skoda Kodiaq Armored has become compliant with PAS 301. In simple terms, the car is now protected from attacks from the sides, roof, and underbody.
The armored Kodiaq can be recognized only in situations where the emergency siren and lighting systems are activated. In other situations, the car looks quite ordinary.
However, in addition to high protection, the car also received improved suspension and brakes. This allows it to withstand the increased weight. Also, the Kodiaq has a tire retention system that prevents the tires from separating from the rim, even when they begin to deflate.
