The war is scaring foreign investors away from Ukraine. This is evidenced by a sharp drop in the number of businesses opened by foreign nationals last year - by 355 (i.e., 24.2%). Most often, foreign nationals opened businesses in the wholesale trade and computer programming sectors, and they prefer to register their businesses in Kyiv.

According to the Unified State Register, in 2024, 1109 new companies with foreign owners were registered in Ukraine, almost a quarter less than in 2023, when this figure rose to 1464 after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Opendatabot reports. Compared to 2021, the number of such businesses decreased by 60%.

In total, citizens of 78 countries have started businesses in Ukraine. Most often, citizens of Turkey (201 businesses), Poland (90), the United States (89), Germany (55), and Israel (49) started their own businesses.

Most foreign companies in Ukraine are involved in wholesale trade (255 companies, 23%), computer programming (109 companies, 9.8%), real estate operations (86 companies, 7.8%), construction (57 companies, 5.1%), and catering (46 companies, 4.1%). Among the newly established companies last year, the largest authorized capital is held by Kyiv-based DVL UKR LLC with the ultimate beneficiary being a French citizen (authorized capital of UAH 1.18 billion), as well as TRADE SOLUTIONS LLC and DK KYIV OUTLET LLC, owned by a Czech citizen (UAH 456.7 million and UAH 335.6 million, respectively).
