The inexpensive Ford Maverick pickup truck is a very practical alternative to modern crossovers. The model is really popular on the market, but an unusual defect was found in it, which led to a massive recall campaign.

Motor1 has learned the details. A problem with the rearview camera was found in the Ford Maverick model. This is blamed on a lack of memory in the software, which will be fixed with a software update.

The recall campaign concerns 144,000 copies of the budget pickup truck. A recent study showed that in 2024, the largest number of recall campaigns related to defects in cars fell on manufacturers of low-cost cars. In particular, Ford was the "leader" in this race.

Since the beginning of 2024, Ford has announced 41 campaigns that have affected a total of 3.7 million vehicles. According to a study by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (which also includes Jeep and Dodge) is in second place with 2.6 million vehicles.

It is expected that by the end of the year, there will be even more such cars. The Ford Transit has problems with the steering column mounting, and the Mustang has defective parts in the suspension. Also, the Ford Bronco Sport and Mustang Mach-E models need to have their wiper motors replaced, and the Ford Maverick budget pickup suffers from several problems.

According to media reports, during a recent conference, Ford said it was spending a lot of money on these issues. In just three months of 2024, the automaker spent more than $2.3 billion on recall campaigns and related warranty service.
