The leader of the Norwegian national team, Johannes Bø, has become the absolute record holder for the number of individual race victories at the Biathlon World Championships. The 31-year-old native of Stryn set this record after winning the pursuit race at the World Championships in Lenzerheid, Switzerland.

Bø won his 22nd gold medal in moguls. The Norwegian defended his world title in the pursuit, beating American Campbell Wright by 8.6 seconds. "The bronze medal went to Frenchman Eric Perrault, who was 20.8 seconds behind the winner.

This success was Johannes' second record-breaking title at this championship. Earlier, he became the world champion in the sprint, which allowed him to break the record of Ole Einar Bjørndalen for the number of gold medals at world championships.

Bø now single-handedly leads the list of biathletes with the most individual wins at the World Championships with 12 gold medals, one more than Bjørndalen and Frenchman Martin Fourcade, who have 11 each.

"Another historic day. Yesterday it was a record for the total number of gold medals, and today it was a record for individual titles. It's been a great weekend," said Bø after his victory.

He said that at the finish of the race he had almost no strength left, but his good shooting, especially the last one, and a decisive finish allowed him to maintain his advantage over Wright.

Johannes can update his record for the most individual wins in the next race, the individual, which will take place on February 19. In this race, Boe will defend his world title.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Johannes Bø at the 4th stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof, Germany, together with his teammates, took a picture with the Ukrainian flag on the podium. The Norwegians explained this gesture as support for our country.
