For the first time in 27 years. The Biathlon World Cup has set the "achievement of the century"
The final race of the 3rd stage of the Biathlon World Cup ended without a medal for the French national team. For the first time in the twenty-first century, the French men's team did not win a single medal in individual races during the first four weeks of the World Cup, Nordicmag reports. The last time this happened was in the 1996/1997 season.
This result has already been called the "achievement of the century" by fans of the French team on social media.
At the beginning of the season, after eight individual races and four competition weekends, no representative of the tricolor team managed to get on the podium. The best performances were two sixth-place finishes in the pursuit races by Emilien Jacquelin (Hogfilzen) and Kenten Fillon-Mayeux (Lenzerheide).
27 years ago, the French team was able to take its first medal only after twelve winter races. Raphaël Poirier was third in the transalpine sprint. It was also the only French bronze medal of the entire season.
For reference: at the same point in the season, the French women also failed to reach the podium before Corinne Nogre won two races in January. This year, the situation is completely different for the French women's team: they have six podiums, including four victories.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, 5-time world biathlon champion Sturla Legreid failed to compete in the mass start at the 3rd stage of the World Cup. The Beijing 2022 Olympic champion fired a shot in the room where the Norwegian national team was located.
On December 16, Legreid's Norwegian teammate Endre Stremseim had a curious incident during the pursuit race on stage 3. One of the leaders of the Norwegian biathlon team dropped a clip while shooting.
