Ferrari will release the first electric car: when to expect the novelty
The situation on the car market is changing so quickly that even those brands that are closely associated with heavy-duty gasoline engines are starting to add electric cars to their lineup. The next such stable will be Ferrari.
The company has already stated that it will work with internal combustion engines as long as possible, but it does not plan to lag behind during the electric car revolution. According to Motortrend, its engineers are already fully working on their first electric car.
Very little is known about the model so far. For example, it does not yet have a name. However, it is expected that it will be presented at the end of 2025, and sales will begin in 2026.
Nevertheless, spy photos with working prototypes undergoing tests on the roads can already be found on the web. Moreover, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has confirmed working on an electric car. And this is despite the fact that fans of the brand are generally skeptical of the idea of electric cars. Therefore, the engineers of the stable from Maranello will have to try not to disappoint them and keep the spirit of Ferrari in the novelty.
It is also known that the car company has built a new factory on the north side of the existing complex to produce not only electric cars, but all parts to them - from engines to transmissions, inverters and batteries. This same new factory will also produce hybrids and internal combustion engine models.
Despite the fact that Ferrari always tries to be as independent as possible when it comes to production, the battery cells will still have to be bought from an unnamed supplier. Insiders say it will be the less power-hungry LFP formula that many automakers are switching to. The company says it will be able to increase the power density of its batteries by 10% annually for the foreseeable future.
Ferrari is also designing the electric car to be silent. However, the company has no plans to install an artificial noise creation system on it, as some other manufacturers do. It is likely that the Italians will do the same as Porsche, amplifying the sounds of the electric motors with an audio system.
For the stable from Maranello, the future model will not be the first experience with electric powertrains. The brand has been working with electric motors in Formula One since the introduction of the Kinetic Energy Renewal System (KERS) in 2009. This year, its latest hybrid race car won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race for the second consecutive time.
As for the price, recent reports indicate that the as yet unnamed Ferrari EV will cost around $550,000 when orders open for it. But there's no confirmation of that from the stable itself. Vigna called the idea "amazing" and said Ferrari doesn't name final prices until a month before the first production car is assembled, but he wouldn't deny the figure. He also said the company intends to put more emphasis on personalization, which can significantly increase the cost of a car over its base price.
Ferrari refuses to talk about sales volumes, but said at its 2022 shareholders meeting that it expects electric cars to account for 5% of the brand's sales in the first year. And by 2030, it plans to reach a target of 40% all-electric models. Some reports suggest that the company is already working on its second electric car, but nothing more is known about the vehicle.
