Fashion failures: 5 of Princess Diana's most unsuccessful outfits

Failed looks of the Princess of Wales.

During her lifetime, Diana, Princess of Wales, was rightly called a style icon. After all, she skillfully combined colors in her looks (khaki and milk or, for example, fuchsia and green), and chose styles that perfectly outlined her forms. However, there were some questionable outfits among her public appearances.

Find out in the OBOZ.UA article which of Princess Diana's looks cannot be considered successful. This will help you avoid such mistakes.

1. Burgundy dress

In 1992, the princess flew to Lille, France, to watch her friend, singer Paul McCartney, perform. She wore a burgundy velvet and lace dress by Valentino. Given the fashion of the time, this outfit could have been called perfect, if not for one detail. Lady Di styled it with red tights, which clearly did not harmonize with the look.

2. Red woolen coat

This is another look that stylists should adjust. In 1982, Princess Diana, seven months pregnant, arrived at the Grand National horse race. She was so eager to look spectacular that she overdid it with the accents in her look. She wore a red fluffy coat, a woolen hat of a similar color, a blue dress with ruffles and white tights.

3. Checkered coat

In 1985, Princess Diana and Prince Charles (now the King of Great Britain) went on a royal tour of Italy. For this trip, designers David and Elizabeth Emmanuel made an emerald midi coat with an accent collar. There are no complaints about the shade and print of the garment (they certainly match the princess's color type), but the cut visually distorted the proportions of Lady Di's figure. And what about the hat? It seems that the brim is too wide. However, it was appropriate for a gondola ride through the Venetian canals.

4. Striped suit

In 1987, Lady Di chose a navy and white striped Roland Klein suit, a Chanel blouse and a wide-brimmed hat for her trip to the Royal Ascot horse race. She completed her outfit with a pearl necklace and black and white closed-toe sandals. What's wrong with this ensemble? The skirt should have been replaced with a monochrome one (to match the blouse). The horizontal lines visually make the hips look wider, and the whole look looks colorful.

5. Elvis dress with pearls

In 1989, the Princess of Wales arrived on an official visit to the Hong Kong Cultural Center. She wore a dress by designer Catherine Walker, which she called the Elvis dress (because of the collar and bolero that characterized the stage looks of singer Elvis Presley). This outfit, decorated with pearls and sequins, can hardly be called successful. It made Princess Diana look older (she was 28 at the time).
