Many drivers are now thinking about switching from a gasoline car to an electric one. It is both more environmentally friendly and, in many cases, cheaper.

But sometimes it is questionable whether an electric SUV will be effective. Experts from the British publication Autocar have analyzed the offers in this segment and selected ten models for 2024 that will not let you down. From affordable models to luxury cars, this list features the best options to suit different driving needs and budgets.

Skoda Enyaq

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

Journalists have named this model the best electric SUV you can buy today. It offers the best combination of affordability, practicality, range, ease of use, and handling. It is a fantastic all-rounder that has been very cleverly improved since 2021, when it was built on the Volkswagen MEB platform and launched into production. The Enyaq 85 Edition series was named the top model, which has a large battery that provides a range of 560 km, as well as almost all the necessary equipment as standard.

Kia EV9

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

If you're looking for an electric SUV rather than a cheaper sedan or hatchback, you probably need a lot of space. And few do a better job of interior space than the huge Kia EV9. It has comfortable seats that fold down easily, as well as a front luggage compartment for storing cables. The Kia EV9 is also a great electric vehicle to drive. The dual-motor version offers high performance, and special steering wheel devices make it easy to control regenerative braking. The EV9 is very stylish for a seven-seat SUV and offers luxury, efficiency and a good range.

Polestar 3

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

Polestar's largest vehicle is also one of the best electric SUVs you can buy today, and there's really a lot to like about it. It's a big, spacious electric SUV with a comfortable cabin full of next-generation technology. It's also powerful, offering between 483 and 510 hp. The energy is provided by a 107 kWh battery that can travel up to 630 km on a single charge. At the same time, this battery is charged at a speed of up to 250 kW. Inside, Polestar 3 is spacious and chic. The huge touchscreen located in the center of the dashboard has integrated Google Maps and is also equipped with wireless smartphone connectivity in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Ford Explorer

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

The exterior of this car is not very inspiring, but everything changes when you get behind the wheel. Based on the Volkswagen MEB platform, the Explorer is more than just a redesigned ID 4. It outperforms many of its competitors in handling, including the Tesla Model Y, and its interior is stylishly packed and spacious. It also offers excellent range for its class, with an entry-level 52 kWh battery that easily covers 390 km. The advanced 77 kWh unit extends the range to 600 km - the highest range available for any vehicle on VW's MEB platform.

Kia EV6

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

The Kia EV6 is a great electric SUV that will suit the whole family. It's comfortable and surprisingly fast in its most powerful specification. It boasts a huge range of 580 km, and the charging speed is also near the best in its class at 258 kW. Power starts at 226 horsepower, which is more than enough for most drivers, while the top-of-the-line Kia EV6 GT delivers a whopping 577 horsepower. Although mechanically this Korean is similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the EV6 is generally slightly better in handling and offers a comfortable ride.

Tesla Model Y

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

The Tesla Model Y is due for a major upgrade, but for now it still offers best-in-class efficiency for electric SUVs. The car's range is quite decent - 455 km for the standard version and 530 for the long-range version. The extremely minimalist style of Tesla's interior and exterior will not suit everyone, as well as the rather high requirements for the driver. But the fundamental qualities of the car are undeniable - the Model Y is extremely spacious for its size, has a good price, and is fast.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

The Ioniq 5 N goes further than just a stiff suspension and enormous power. Thanks to its clever design, this car can switch the power on and off, and if you want it to, it can simulate a six-speed gearbox and a gasoline engine. All thanks to the reinforced shell, the correct limited-slip differential on the rear axle, and adaptive shock absorbers. Hyundai Ioniq 5 N adapts perfectly to the driver.

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

Modern cars, especially luxury models, are equipped with driving assistance systems. However, not all of these features are truly useful. Nevertheless, Mercedes-Benz was the first manufacturer to offer a true adaptive cruise control system back in 1999, and it still holds the lead here. This also applies to the EQE SUV electric SUV. And systems such as lane-keeping assist and speeding warning mostly don't interfere and can be easily turned off.

Genesis Electrified GV70 SUV

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

The electrified GV70 is designed for drivers who want a luxurious, ultra-fast electric vehicle that retains the look and feel of a traditional car. There is only one version of the model with a 77.4 kWh battery that provides a range of 450 km. Of course, this is slightly behind the current leaders, but its power is 483 hp. With this power, it accelerates to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. The interior is still one of the best in the class, thanks to the excellent quality of materials, comfort, and noise insulation.

BMW iX

Experts are delighted: the best electric SUVs have been named

With its electric cars, BMW has turned into a comfort specialist. The BMW i7 has won the ultimate luxury car test, and the same talent is present in the more advanced BMW iX. It has refined handling, high performance, and a decent real-world range. Meanwhile, the interior is more reminiscent of a large, ultra-luxury BMW i3 than a sports sedan. It is much more like a lounge with open spaces, soft shapes and, in some characteristics, a choice of unusual but quite attractive materials.
