Ukraine's men's biathlon team showed the best result of the World Cup season in the relay race. Coach Nadiia Bielova's team took sixth place at the Ruhpolding stage, and at the equator of the course, the "blue and yellows" took the second position but failed to hold it.
For the race, the coach of our national team chose the tactics of the so-called running relay, writes biathlon.com.ua. This means that the strongest athletes run the opening stages. In the case of the Ukrainians, it was captain Dmytro Pidruchnyi and Vitalii Mandzyn.
The disadvantage of this tactic is that with each stage the team is being overtaken by rivals. At the same time, Artem Dudchenko and finisher Taras Lesiuk managed to keep a fairly high pace on the track.
As a result, the Ukrainian biathletes did without penalty laps, using seven additional rounds. In the final report, the "blue and yellow" team lagged behind the French winner by 1 minute 19 seconds.
The second place went to the Swedish team, which was 20 seconds ahead of Germany. Norway was sensationally left without any awards.
The sixth place was the best result for the Ukrainians since December 2023, when they took fifth place at the Hochfilzen stage.
