WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) has once again threatened to defeat WBA, WBO, IBO, and IBF titles holder Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs). During his morning run, the Briton said he would easily defeat the Ukrainian.
"So, today is exactly 9 weeks until I kick Usyk's ass. My team and I have been jogging since early this morning. I don't know how much we'll run: eight, nine, ten miles. Maybe we will even run a half marathon. The weather is fantastic," Fury said.
As a reminder, Usyk and Fury will fight on May 18. According to American bookmakers, it is our compatriot who is the favorite in this confrontation.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the Usyk – Fury fight was originally scheduled for February 17, but Fury suffered a serious cut on February 2 during training. Because of this, the fight was officially postponed to the spring of 2024.
Turki Al al-Sheikh, head of Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Entertainment, said the May 18 show will go ahead anyway. The organizer of the boxing night in Riyadh has come up with a rule that will prevent the fight from being disrupted again.
In addition, Turki Al Al-Sheikh noted that either Usyk or Tyson will face a $10 million fine if either of them refuses to perform.
On March 15, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Mauricio Suleiman came up with a revolutionary idea to change the rules for the Usyk – Fury fight. The official is convinced that six judges, rather than the traditional three, should be counting the points in the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.
A few days ago, the WBC supported the initiative that the winner of the Tyson vs Alexander fight should fight Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs).
