The European Commission has sent a draft proposal to the European Union (EU) countries that includes the 14th package of sanctions against Russia. This package includes restrictions on imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia, a ban on imports of helium, manganese ore, and mining machinery, as well as restrictions on funding for political parties, non-governmental organizations, etc.

According to the Polish Radio, the package includes a ban on transshipment of Russian LNG in EU ports. In particular, in the port of Zeebrugge in Belgium, as well as restrictions on the Russian LNG projects Arctic and Murmansk.

The package also provides for sanctions against certain vessels belonging to the Russian Federation's "shadow fleet " that transport Russian oil despite EU restrictions, prohibiting them from entering European ports. The proposal also provides for a ban on transportation companies that are a quarter or more owned by Russians to operate in the EU.

In addition, the Commission has prepared a list of more than 50 companies from outside the EU that are subject to trade restrictions because of their assistance to Russia in circumventing sanctions. In addition to this, it is proposed to ban the financing of political parties, foundations and non-governmental organizations by Russia, and a symbolic ban on the sale of Ukrainian artworks on the European market in case of suspected looting is proposed.

In terms of specific goods, the package does not include a ban on aluminum imports, but it does include a ban on helium imports. As for exports, the ban will apply to manganese ore, mining machinery, monitors, and electronics.

Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis confirmed that the EU is working on the next, fourteenth package of sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. The previous, 13th package of sanctions was approved by the EU Council on February 23 to respond to Russia's full-scale invasion in response to its aggression against Ukraine.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the Arctic LNG 2 project managed by Novatek plays a key role in Moscow's strategic plans to increase exports and replenish the budget, but the sanctions imposed by the United States create obstacles to its further development. Russia plans to triple its LNG (liquefied natural gas) production by 2030, bringing in at least $35 billion annually.
