When it comes to cleaning the oven from burnt and old grease, it sometimes seems easier to buy a new one than to remove these deposits. And often, we resort to mechanical cleaning of the appliance's chamber. Simply put, we scrape off the fat.

Experts advise doing this very carefully so as not to damage the surface. And, according to House Digest, if you need such cleaning, they recommend paying attention to pumice stone.

This volcanic rock can be an effective tool for removing stubborn burnt-on dirt from the oven, but it requires careful use. In addition, it is better to consider it as a last option if other cleaning methods have not worked.

How to clean the oven safely with a pumice stone

No matter what material your oven is made of, scratches are not good for it. That's why you need to moisten the pumice stone with water before using it. This makes the abrasive softer and more pliable. In addition, there is no need to put pressure on it during work.

In addition to ovens, pumice stone is great for use on many other household surfaces. For example, it can be used to scrub lime stains from toilet bowls and remove stubborn dirt from concrete or stone surfaces. In each case, a piece of the material is moistened before it is used for cleaning.

And be sure to keep in mind that some materials absolutely cannot be cleaned with pumice. These include all surfaces that are easy to scratch. In particular, we are talking about stainless steel and glass.

What you should try before you use a pumice stone

Before using pumice stone to remove stubborn dirt from your oven, consider using other cleaning methods. For example, use special ready-to-use oven cleaners. They effectively dissolve all common dirt chemically.

You can also use a paste of baking soda and vinegar. This natural combination is a great way to remove grease. But it may require several cleaning cycles.

There are also a few tools that can scrape away dirt with less risk than pumice. These include nylon sponges and brushes with soft bristles. For particularly stubborn stains, a plastic scraper can be effective.
