Don't do this: 5 mistakes when choosing shoes for winter that ruin comfort and health
Winter shoes should undergo a so-called shoe control. After all, any of the mistakes can cost your health. For example, if your boots have poor ventilation, wearing them will create a favorable environment for the development of fungal infections. And an unstable or insufficiently embossed sole will be traumatic.
How to find really warm and stylish shoes for the winter that will not let you down? Read the OBOZ.UA article about common mistakes made by streetstyle fashionistas and how to fix them.
1. Demi-season models
If the temperature is above zero outside, you can safely wear your favorite demi-season pair. But when the thermometer is below -5 or -10°C, insulated Chelsea boots or high fleece boots will not warm you up. Although they look attractive, in such weather, we advise you to opt for models with natural fur, sheepskin or semi-fur on the inside.
2. Wrong size and unstable heels
What size are your feet? 36, 38? For the winter, take shoes one size larger: this way, your feet will have more space than in summer models, and they will not freeze; when it is bitterly cold outside, you can wear warm socks. Pairs that are too tight disrupt the blood circulation in the feet, provoke the development of tumors and can cause ingrown nails.
What about the sole? It should be embossed and massive. Preferably, it should be made of rubber or polyurethane: these materials are resistant to low temperatures and provide high-quality waterproofing.
3. Wrong shoe material
Suede shoes are definitely not a good option for winter: this material wears out quickly and gets wet from water and snow. High-quality artificial leather has poor ventilation and will last for one or two seasons. Moon boots? They are great for warming, but the skin in them hardly breathes, which often provokes foot diseases.
What to choose instead? Models made of genuine leather or nubuck: they allow the feet to breathe and warm up quickly. They adapt well to temperature changes and do not crack, unlike leatherette.
4. Too bright color
We don't mind accent models in bright pink, orange or, say, yellow. The reason is different: it is impractical. A few outfits can still be made with such a palette, but most things will look inorganic with it. A wiser investment in your wardrobe would be shoes in basic colors: black, gray, brown, mocha, milk, etc.
5. Incorrectly selected "bottom" style
If you choose the wrong pants or skirt for your shoes, your legs will look "shorter" and "bulkier". Fashion taboos include the following combinations: cargo and winter Cossacks, skinny jeans and thin boots, midi-skirt and mid-height boots. What combinations are worth trying? Wide-calf boots and straight trousers, ugg boots and tight leggings, or, for example, straight denim and winter Сhelsea boots.
