"Do not expect changes until the war is over": IBU puts final nail in the Russian national biathlon team's possible admission to international tournaments
The Russian national biathlon team will not return to international tournaments either in the coming months or further. The issue of admitting Russian representatives to competitions is not even on the agenda, and it will be possible to consider their return only after the war in Ukraine ends.
Christian Winkler, head of the communication department of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), told this VseProSport. According to him, the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) is obliged to comply with the principles of the IBU, and Russia has not yet shown any desire to comply with international rules.
"This issue was not even considered at the IBU Congress in September 2024 in Belgrade. In this regard, no action should be expected in the coming weeks, months or even further. Something can only change after the war is over. The decision was taken until further notice to ensure the safety and integrity of such measures. One of the most important criteria is to make sure that they are not connected with the war in Ukraine, that none of the officials or athletes are part of the Russian Armed Forces or are involved in hostilities," the official said.
