Discovering Lviv: top locations for fall walks

Where to go in the rainy season? Of course, to the city of Lion. Here, every street is steeped in history and the aromas of fragrant coffee and chocolate. We'll tell you what atmospheric places to visit below.

Stryiskyi Park

One of the largest parks in Europe. It was designed by the famous master of landscape art Arnold Roehri. Landscaping work began around the 1880s. Tens of thousands of trees and shrubs were planted here, including spruce, maple, red oak, tulip tree, and more. Various alleys, ponds, and other landscape elements were also created here.

The location gained popularity after the 1894 Regional Exhibition. This event not only drew attention to the park but also contributed to its further development.

Be sure to go to the lake where you can meet the "royal birds" - swans. Also, do not forget about the greenhouse where dwarf bananas, cypresses, and palm trees grow. And, of course, take a walk along the picturesque alleys with majestic fountains.

By the way, there are also several historic buildings here that have been converted into premises for various food establishments. For example, an old tobacco shop now operates as a bakery, and a restaurant has been set up in the kiosk of the famous German chocolate brand Sarotti.

If you are traveling with children, we recommend visiting the Children's Railway, which is also part of the natural attraction. Here kids can not only see the train but also feel like real passengers. The train runs every Saturday and Sunday. The route starts from the Parkova station and ends at the Soniachna station.

Botanical Garden of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv

One of the oldest botanical gardens in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. It was founded by Jan III Sobieski in 1661. At the end of the eighteenth century, the official built a palace and laid out a park near it. Later, in 1911, the school bought the garden.

The greenhouses here are home to not only common plants but also exotic species, such as palm trees and bromeliads. There are also a lot of cacti: from small and spherical to long and thorny ones.

Shevchenkivskyi Hai

One of the most important cultural centers of Western Ukraine. The idea of creating an open-air museum emerged around the 1920s. However, its realization began after the Second World War. The skansen was opened in 1971.

Today, there are more than 100 memorabilia here. They recreate the way of life of different regions of the country, starting from the 17th century. In addition to architecture, thousands of exhibits have been collected here: clothes, household items, furniture, and tools.

During the walk, travelers will be able to see houses that were built without a single nail, ancient wooden churches, outbuildings, and workshops. Tourists will also learn how our ancestors lived, worked, and celebrated holidays.

There is also a shop on the territory of the complex where you can buy various souvenirs.

Bohdan Khmelnytsky Culture and Recreation Park

It is a popular place where Lviv residents often spend their leisure time. Back in the nineteenth century, there were tennis courts and a skating rink. However, the biggest changes occurred during the Soviet period.

A typical cultural park with typical attributes of that time was created on the site of the former entertainment. Monuments to leaders and concert venues were erected everywhere. To this day, only the central alley and the premises of the Druzhba cinema have survived. By the way, concerts, food festivals, and master classes are often organized at the location.

There are also a variety of attractions nearby. We also recommend going on the Ferris wheel, where you can admire the incredible views.

Rynok (Market) Square

The central square of Lviv. Since the city's foundation, it has been the center of community life: trades, festivals, and political events. Today, the location impresses with a variety of architectural styles: from Gothic to modern.

There are four fountains with statues of ancient gods around the Town Hall: Adonis, Diana, Neptune, and Amphitrite. These fountains once had a practical significance. Traders used to draw water from them to refresh the products on the shelves.

We recommend going up to the observation deck. It is located in the city council building. From here you can see most of the sights of the city center: Lviv National Opera, the Saints Peter and Paul Garrison Church, the High Castle, etc.

Do you dream of visiting Rome? Then we recommend taking a stroll through the Italian Courtyard. The Renaissance architecture monument was built in 1580. Here you can see many ancient exhibits, including a stone lion by Lorenzovych, the Isaiah bell, and a white marble tombstone with carved ornaments. Nowadays there is a cafe here. It also often hosts concerts and festivals of classical and jazz music.
