The new Dacia Bigster family SUV is one of the most anticipated novelties on the car market. The midsize SUV will compete with such popular models as the Ford Kuga and Nissan Qashqai.

The first official teaser images of the Bigster are not very revealing. The only detail that can be seen for sure is a set of Y-shaped taillights, which are exactly like those on the latest Dacia Duster. However, experts already have a clear idea of what the new model will look like, as the Bigster concept was shown back in January 2021 and ushered in a new era of design for Dacia.

Bigster will have the lowest price among several competitors in the family car sector. Nissan Qashqai, for example, now starts at $40 thousand. The Kia Sportage has a slightly lower starting price of $38,500, while the Ford Kuga starts at $42,000. The Dacia Bigster is likely to have a starting price below $38 thousand.

The smaller Duster than the Bigster is a competitor to the Nissan Juke, not the Qashqai, while the new car will fill a gap in the brand's range for a larger family-oriented model.

The Dacia Bigster is likely to be around 4.6 meters long, a marked increase from the 4.3-meter-long Duster, and will be about the same size as the latest Ford Kuga, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Vauxhall Grandland.

The prototype spotted during testing has slim LED headlights and Y-shaped taillights, just like the concept. However, the widened wheel arches and carved hood design appear to have been softened for the road version.

The size and shape of the Bigster also indicate a spacious interior. However, Dacia CEO Denis Le Voth confirmed to Auto Express that the Bigster will definitely not be a seven-seater.

The Bigster will use the Duster's new 10.1-inch center touchscreen, seven-inch digital instrument cluster, and Dacia's new YouClip system.

The car will be based on the CMF-B, which Dacia has used for the Duster compact SUV, the Sandero supermini, and the seven-seater Jogger. The Bigster will be the largest model Dacia has ever put on this platform, but it will help make the price more affordable than its competitors.

The CMF-B platform can utilize hybrid technology. The Duster, for example, is available with the TCe 130 mild hybrid, which produces 128 hp and can be equipped with two- or four-wheel drive. At the same time, the Hybrid 140 system combines a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors, which allows cars with a fully hybrid powertrain to drive up to 80 percent of the time on pure electricity.
