Critics called the new part of "Captain America" boring: reviews are divided
On February 14, 2025, a new part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Captain America: Brave New World," was released. The movie, which became part of one of the largest superhero franchises in the history of cinema, immediately attracted the attention of critics and audiences. And although positive reviews were spreading online earlier, the overall reaction to the movie was mixed.
As it became known, most professionals were disappointed. Rotten Tomatoes, one of the main movie review platforms, awarded "Captain America: Brave New World" which received only 53% of positive reviews. This is one of the worst results among the MCU films, with only a few films, such as "The Eternals" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum of Solace" have received similarly low scores. In addition, the Metacritic scores were not encouraging either, with only 43 points out of 100.
Not only the plot was criticized, but also the visual effects, which many considered uninteresting and overly artificial. Collider noted that "the movie is so disappointing that you want to forget it." Particularly negative comments were made about the work on plot details and characters, which were too numerous and complicated the overall picture.
Positive feedback from some critics
Not all reviews were negative. Some reviewers recognized that the movie had its strong points. For example, Vicky Jessop from the London Evening Standard noted that although the plot is not too complicated, it offers enough interesting plot twists. She also praised the dynamic performances of the actors, especially Maki and Danny Ramirez, who played the new Falcon.
Despite the low critical acclaim, the film is projected to earn around $190 million at the global box office in its opening week. This still won't give it as much success as other films, such as "Deadpool and Wolverine," which earned over $1.3 billion in 2024. "Captain America: A Brave New World" is expected to gross around 80 million over the weekend, which is still considered a good result for films of this genre.
