Closed shops, empty beaches: how Russia turned the resort village of Kyrylivka into a wasteland. Video
The resort village of Kyrylivka in the Melitopol district of Zaporizhzhia region has been completely deserted under Russian occupation. Local residents demonstrate that the tourism industry no longer generates income, and there are almost no people willing to relax and spend money on the shores of the Azov Sea.
As a result, most shops have closed, and fewer people are sunbathing on the beaches. The video was posted on TikTok by a Ukrainian woman who remained under occupation.
The center of the village is unrecognizable during the peak season. All the stalls selling fruit, vegetables, and corn have long since closed, as demand for such food has disappeared with the influx of tourists.
Most shops remain closed in the middle of the week. Small businesses have been destroyed by the occupation, and it is mostly locals who can be seen on the streets.
The situation on the beach is no better. As the author of the video noted, Ukrainians do come to the beach in the heat of the day to relax, "but not many."
"This is not comparable to previous vacations, where there was nowhere to lie down," the blogger said.
There is a lot of free space on the beach, even in the shade. Previously, vacationers used to take the best spots early in the morning to spend a few hours under a thatched roof.
The commenters tried to support the residents of Kyrylivka and sarcastically mentioned the "rich Russian world" promised by Russian terrorists.
"The liberators have come". A dead zone. There was no place for an apple to fall," "It's okay, we'll be there soon, you just have to be patient," "Russia is making a wasteland out of everything," the Ukrainians wrote.
