Human calculator. A 14-year-old prodigy from India broke six Guinness World Records in one day

Aaryan Shukla, a 14-year-old schoolboy from India, broke six Guinness World Records in one day. He mentally added four-digit numbers, multiplied five-digit and eight-digit numbers, and divided a 20-digit number by a ten-digit number. The teenager did all this in record time.

All the records are special because the student was given only 3 attempts for each of them. On the official website of the Guinness Book of Records, the boy was nicknamed the "human calculator" for his abilities.

In one day, he set an impressive number of records:

  • the fastest time to add 50 five-digit numbers mentally (18.71 seconds);
  • the fastest time to add 100 four-digit numbers (30.9 seconds);
  • the fastest time to add 200 four-digit numbers (1 minute 9.68 seconds);
  • the fastest time to mentally divide a 20-digit number by a 10-digit number (5 minutes, 42 seconds);
  • the fastest time to multiply two eight-digit numbers (2 minutes 35.41 seconds);
  • the fastest time for multiplying two five-digit numbers (51.69 seconds).

At the age of 13, the teenager set a record for the fastest addition of 50 five-digit numbers in his head – in just 25.19 seconds. That's about one addition every 0.5 seconds.

Aaryan trains for five to six hours every day and believes that this is one of the most important aspects of preparing for the competition. He can calculate "impossible" sums with lightning speed, but he cannot explain what is going on in his head at that moment.

"A lot of things in calculations happen instantly, so I can't say what's going on in my head. I just do it naturally. Basically, it's so fast that you can't think, you just have to do the calculations," Aaryan Shukla says.

He began practicing calculations at the age of 6, and at 8 he took part in an international competition where he won medals and cups. Since then, Aaryan has become a world champion and is one of the board members of the Global Mental Calculator Association (GMCA).

Despite the daily training, the student believes that there should be time for rest. So, he does meditation and likes to read.
