"Buffy the Vampire Slayer": Hulu plans to make a sequel to the legendary series

ObozrevatelNews

Hulu is working on the sequel to the legendary "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" series. The project will feature Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the main role in the main project. However, her character will not be central to the new story.

OBOZ.UA tells what will the new "Buffy" be like.

Script and director

The script for the new series will be written by Nora and Lila Zuckerman, known for their work on "Poker Face" and "Fringe." It will be directed by Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao ("Nomadland," "Eternals"). The project is described as "the next chapter in Buffy's story", but plot details are still under wraps.

What is known about the plot?

According to sources, the new "Buffy" will focus on the younger Slayer. Although only one Slayer can exist in the original universe at a time, the series finale changed this rule, awakening hundreds of potential successors. This opens up the space for new stories and characters.

What does Sarah Michelle Gellar think about the new project?

Gellar, who is currently starring in the series "Dexter: Original Sin," has repeatedly stated that she is not interested in rebooting "Buffy." However, in a December interview on "The Drew Barrymore Show," the actress changed her position. She noted that examples of successful sequels such as "Sex and the City" and "Dexter: Original Sin" made her think about the possibility of returning to the role of Buffy.

History of "Buffy" relaunches

This is not the first attempt to relaunch "Buffy." In 2018, 20th Television worked on this idea with the participation of the original series creator Joss Whedon, and screenwriter Monica Owusu-Breen. However, the project never went beyond development.

By the way, Whedon, who was later accused of abusing actors on the set of "Buffy", "Angel," and "Justice League," is not involved in the new Hulu project.

Who is producing the new project?

The executive producers of the new Buffy will be Nora and Lila Zuckerman, Chloe Zhao, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, as well as Gail Berman, Fran and Kaz Kuzui from Suite B, and Dolly Parton from Sandollar.
