Bosnia refused to play Israel in the Euro 2024 playoffs after the defeat by Ukraine

The national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina has announced the cancellation of the third-place match in the playoffs for the 2024 European Championships with Israel. The meeting was to take place on March 26 in Sarajevo, but after consultations with the International Football Federation (FIFA), it was decided not to hold it.

This is stated on the official website of the Football Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NFSBiH). It is noted that the inexpediency of holding such a match, which would have the status of a friendly, is related to security. The decision was also supported by the European Football Union (UEFA).

"After consultation with the relevant authorities, and due to the circumstances of the current security situation and the high risk of the match against the Israeli national team, it was decided to cancel the match in Sarajevo. UEFA has also agreed to this with a full understanding of the new situation. Our national team will play a new friendly match on one of the next available dates on the UEFA calendar in 2024," the NFSBiH said in a statement.

The day before, the Bosnian team dramatically lost to Ukraine in the semifinals of the 2024 UEFA European Championship, conceding two goals in three minutes before the final whistle. One of the home team's players could not hold back his tears because of this defeat. The Bosnian media also reacted emotionally to the failure.
