Borderlands movie called an "unfunny disaster": the first viewers saw only two advantages

The comedy action movie Borderlands has become a continuation of the trend of video game adaptations. But transferring the events of game franchises to movies is not a smooth process. Thus, Lara Croft with Angelina Jolie and The Last of Us with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay became real hits, which makes film studios take risks again and again.

A fresh attempt, the film adaptation of the fantasy shooter Borderlands, seems to have been less successful. At least, this is evidenced by the first reviews of the comedy action movie collected by Gamesradar.

The project premiered on August 6 in Los Angeles. After that, reviews and feedback appeared on social media and specialized publications, calling the film "unfunny," "uninspiring," and even "a disaster."

The film was directed by Eli Roth, who is known for his work on both horror films and the family comedy The House with a Clock in Its Walls. And now he has recast the film's stars Cate Blanchett and Jack Black, adding Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Arianna Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu and others. In the story, their heroes land on another planet to carry out a mission to steal treasure from a secret vault.

Adriano Caporusso, a reviewer for Bitesize Break, called Borderlands a disaster filled with every possible cliché on social media. In his opinion, the intricate chaos of the game in the film is replaced by unfunny and visually repulsive nonsense with irritating characters. The critic also accused the cast of lacking chemistry between the characters.

Edgar Ortega from Loud and Clear Reviews agrees with him. He also criticizes the movie's humor for a whole bunch of outdated jokes that the characters use. Although, in his opinion, it's so bad that it's even good.

Awesome Friday! Matthew Simpson admitted that he wanted to like Borderlands. But the unsatisfactory plot and weak acting did not allow this to happen.

However, the film has received more favorable reviews. For example, The Hollywood Handle praised Cate Blanchett's performance, who pulls the whole plot together and copes with the task. And Jack Black's comedic talent complements her performance.
