Blackouts and constant adjustment: a look into London's photography exhibition about life in Kyiv during the war
An exhibition of young Ukrainian photographer and filmmaker Lyuba Bobrova has recently opened its doors in London. The exhibition features her works about life in Kyiv during the blackouts and a series of photos dedicated to families who lost their homes and are starting life in a new place.
OBOZ.UA will tell you about the peculiarities of the artist's narratives and the goals of the exhibition.
How Kyiv is seen in London
The event, which includes the series Adaptation and Blackouts, is a heartfelt story about the resilience and "quiet strength" of Ukrainians after three years of war.
The photos from the Adaptation series show the everyday life of two Ukrainian families starting a new life after the Russian shelling.
The Blackouts series includes 12 episodes from the lives of Kyiv residents during forced power outages. The photos taken in an underground shopping center during another blackout in Kyiv show that despite all the difficulties of wartime, everyday life goes on.
Along with the exhibition, a film about the history of the project was shown in the hall, which was filmed and edited by Lyubov Bobrova herself.
What is known about the young artist
Lyuba Bobrova is currently studying Content, Media and Filmmaking course at MetFilm School. In addition, she works and volunteers as a director of photography, camera operator and photographer, creating influential narratives through photography and short film projects.
The exhibition is aimed at supporting Ukrainians. In particular, by raising funds for the "Home Again" project, which helps to restore people's lives and homes destroyed by war.
