Big update: what Apple Intelligence features will appear in iOS 18.1

The updated version of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 18.1, announces the emergence of Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence features. However, it is already known that only a part of the planned innovations will be available immediately.

Mac Rumors has revealed what other Apple Intelligence tools are to appear in the 18th version of the operating system. And also when we should expect their appearance.

Image Playground

This tool will allow you to create animated images for cartoons and insert any phrases into them It will be a separate application integrated into Messages and Notes. So in Notes, Image Playground can be used to create an image based on what you've written. In turn, in Messages, the use of Image Playground will be even wider. For example, you can use photos of your friends and contacts as a basis for inspiration. Don't worry, this tool won't create photo-realistic images that can be confused with real photos, so there shouldn't be any unpleasant surprises.

Genmoji

The Genmoji function is essentially similar to Image Playground, but its task is to generate any emoji you want. Currently, all platforms use a set of icons defined by the Unicode consortium, but the iOS 18 update will give you room for creativity here as well. You will be able to design your own emoji with almost no restrictions and create a dog eating pancakes or an alligator on a skateboard. Just like in Image Playground, you can make Genmoji based on your friends' photos. But for them to appear properly on the devices of the people you send them to, they'll need to be running iOS 18, too.

Image Wand

Another feature based on Image Playground that will appear in the Notes app. You can use it to insert images into your notes depending on the context. On the iPad, you can sketch something quickly on the screen and ask Image Wand to create something beautiful from that rough sketch. And illustrate your note that way.

Priority messages

Priority messages will be displayed at the top of the notification stack so you can quickly access what's most important.

Mail

In the Mail app, Apple will add a feature that automatically sorts incoming messages into categories for better management of things like newsletters and purchase emails.

Siri

Some initial updates to the Siri voice assistant will appear in iOS 18.1, such as a new backlight that wraps around the edges of the display. However, users will feel the real benefits later. The assistant will be taught to perform more actions, and it will become more informed and better aware of the owner's context.

For example, you can ask Siri to send the image you're looking at to a specific contact. Personal context will allow you to do things like ask Siri to find a specific message or remind you when you took the photo you're looking for. You'll also be able to move files from one app to another and control app functions with Siri, something you've never been able to do before. The voice assistant will work in both third-party apps and Apple's own programs.

ChatGPT integration

Among other things, Siri will now be able to communicate with ChatGPT by OpenAI. She will send complex requests for processing.

Additional languages

Currently, the entire set of Apple Intelligence features is available only in American English. However, the list of available languages will be expanded in the future.

When to expect more Apple Intelligence features

The company promises that new features will be available in iOS 18.2, iOS 18.3, and iOS 18.4. The first update should be released by the end of this year. It is expected to include Image Playground, Genmoji, and ChatGPT Siri integration. Around January, iOS 18.3 should be released, which could potentially include some new Siri features. But iOS 18.4 is expected to be released no earlier than March 2025. This update will contain most of the Apple Intelligence Siri features. Also, support for additional languages may appear at this time.

In general, iOS 18.1 is expected to be released on Monday, October 28. The manufacturer plans to release Apple Intelligence in a beta version. Over time, the set of its functions will be gradually improved.
