Beautiful and profitable: the best small cars are named

Small cars are best suited for large cities and narrow streets of old Europe. The main advantage of these compact vehicles is their maneuverability and ease of parking.

Top Gear experts have published a rating of the best small car models at a fairly affordable price. Some of them have already gained the trust of drivers, while others are still in the category of long-awaited new products.

Renault Zoe

This model will eventually be replaced by the revived Renault 5, and production of the bestselling Zoe will end at the end of March 2024. Although its place in the electric hall of fame has already been secured, mainstream electric vehicles are not getting more reliable. The larger battery of the Zoe mk2 and the additional, more powerful R135 engine have proven to be competitive and high-quality options in the car market. The first 52 kWh pack replaces the old 41 kWh car battery, giving it a range of up to a third longer.

Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 has an updated interior, chassis, body and platform. It is also longer, wider and taller than the gasoline 500. Experts emphasize that the accelerator calibration of the electric motor is very similar to that of a gasoline engine. The electric 500 comes with a 24 kWh or 42 kWh battery - the former is equipped with a 94 hp engine and an official range of 190 km, while the latter has a 117 hp engine and has a range of 320 km.

Mini Electric

The front wheels are driven by a single electric motor that produces 181 hp - almost the same power as the 2-liter gasoline Cooper S. However, the Mini Electric is 145 kg heavier than the Mini Cooper S with an automatic transmission. But the 199 lb-ft of torque is instantaneous, the center of gravity is lower, and Mini has worked tirelessly to pack all the necessary elements into the body of a three-door hatchback.

Citroen Ami

The Ami has a unique appeal. It is very compact: less than one and a half meters wide (actually 1.4) and less than two and a half meters long, but it can accommodate two people with relative comfort. The car has an 8 hp engine and a 5.5 kWh battery. The maximum distance the car can travel between charges is 75 km.

Renault 5 (expected in 2025)

Renault confidently says that this will be the best small electric car to drive. The company believes that thanks to the use of a multi-lever rear axle, which is usually reserved for higher and more expensive segments, the car will become a very strong competitor in the market. Until now, Renault has been working on a new all-electric CMF-B EV platform, which will form the basis of the 5. Renault has promised that the 5 will be cheaper than the Zoe.

Dacia Spring

The car became a real hit even before its release. Dacia has taken 120,000 orders since the start of sales. It is currently the third best-selling electric car in Europe after the Tesla Model Y and Model 3. Spring has a range of 225 km.
