A historic Champions League match ends with a dramatic denouement for Barcelona. Video
The Belgian club Antwerp has won its first ever victory over a team from Spain in the Champions Cup/League. The day before, Marco van Bommel's team defeated Catalan side Barcelona 3-2 in an incredibly dramatic match, conceding and scoring in stoppage time.
Both teams had no tournament motivation and gave the fans a scoring show. The home team opened the scoring in the second minute thanks to a well-aimed shot by midfielder Arthur Vermeeren. The Catalans equalized just before halftime with a goal by forward Ferran Torres.
At the beginning of the second half, Antwerp's Vincent Janssen put his team ahead again. And in stoppage time, there was a real drama. First, in the 90+1th minute, Marc Guillaume again allowed the Catalans to equalize.
However, just 60 seconds later, Belgian forward George Ilenikhena took advantage of a pass from deep in the field, went one-on-one and scored past the visitors' goalkeeper, provoking real madness in the stands.
Thanks to this victory, Antwerp managed to finish the group stage with points. This is the first time the Belgians have beaten the Spaniards in the most prestigious European club tournament. Previously, they lost to Barcelona and Real Madrid with a total score of 1:13 three times. For the Catalans, this defeat was also their first against Belgium.
