Baking is a new makeup trend: how to achieve perfectly even skin tone and who should not use this technique
Although the "baking" technique is not new in the makeup world, professional makeup artists have turned it into a real trend. Not only professionals but also every woman can use this method of fixing makeup because it requires one simple product: loose powder.
Influencers and famous celebrities often use this technique to achieve the effect of perfect skin, Real Simple writes.
"Baking is actually a very old technique that was used in the late 80s and early 90s when matte and dense makeup was at its peak," explains renowned makeup artist Gianpaolo Ceciliato, "It was used to mattify the skin, fix the makeup and prevent oily skin.
What is baking
Many people may associate baking with the kitchen, the oven, and delicious pastries. "Interestingly, the baking technique uses a similar concept: it's a process where your body's natural heat fixes makeup with a layer of loose powder," explains Maria Rincon Djuro, professional makeup artist at KIKO Milano.
"Usually, a generous layer of loose powder is applied to the skin under the eyes, T-zone, and areas of the face that we want to highlight, and we leave it on for a few minutes," the expert adds. During this time, your body heat helps to "securely fix" the makeup. After that, you should remove the excess powder.
Why this technique is not for everyone
It is important to note that makeup is not for everyone. "Sometimes baking accentuates wrinkles and dries out the skin," Ceciliato explains. Therefore, baking should be approached with caution for those with dry skin, as well as rashes on the cheekbones and under the eyes.
How to do baking at home
Start with a moisturizing base. Regardless of your skin type, you shouldn't skip this step to avoid drying it out with the baking technique.
Then apply cream or liquid-based makeup as usual. "This means primer, foundation, concealer, and liquid blush," Maria says.
After applying all the liquid products, you can do baking. Take a loose powder, a makeup sponge, or a dense brush and apply the product in a thick layer with light pressing movements.
Leave the powder on for 5-10 minutes. After that, take a fluffy face brush and remove the excess.
