German automaker Audi is apparently preparing to launch its own electric SUV. The company has been spotted testing a distinctive prototype.
According to Autocar, photos of the prototype have been posted online. According to the images, the model is based on the upcoming Q6 E-tron Sportback. At the same time, it is much taller and wider than a conventional electric SUV.
The car has the proportions of a powerful SUV.

A more aggressive front bumper than Q6's one, with redesigned daytime running lights and larger air intakes, is also visible. The wheel arches have also been enlarged to accommodate a set of thick-walled all-terrain tires. At the same time, the roof of the car is equipped with the same trunk as the limited edition Audi Q8 E-Tron Edition Dakar.
Journalists speculate that this "appearance" may indicate that Audi is preparing a similar version of the Q6, albeit with a more explicit emphasis on off-road performance. This may also explain Audi's sudden withdrawal from the World Rally Championship in March (the brand's car won the Dakar Rally in January). Perhaps the company's engineers are now preparing a special model in honor of three years of participation in this series.

However, it could also be a test model of the German brand's future competitor to models such as the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Journalists learned about it last year.
This car will not be based on the same PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture as the Q6, which may explain why the prototype is so noticeably stretched in width. It is noteworthy that its proportions are very similar to those of the Activesphere concept, which Audi presented a year ago.
An Audi representative refused to comment on the images of the new prototype.
