"We were working close to the Metropolitan Chambers near the defensive rampart in the village of Krylos. We were expecting to find fragments of the Princely period but instead came across a cultural layer of the Early Iron Age. We found two clay bull figurines, which testify to the cult of agriculture at that time. People did what they saw and what they did on the farm," said Andrii Fihol, a junior researcher at the Department of Archeology of the Ancient Halych National Reserve.

At the excavation site, archaeologists also found a wheel from a cart, Fihol added. Scientists assume that it was the only sculpture of the IX-X century BC period.

It is known that the Early Iron Age, which lasted from the end of the second to the first millennium BC, is the period when people began to use iron to make tools.

According to scientists, this era dates back to the 12th century BC on the territory of Ukraine. The most interesting chapters of the Early Iron Age are associated with the Scythians and Sarmatians.

The Metropolitan Chambers in the village of Krylos, an architectural monument of the eighteenth century, was a two-story palace of Galician metropolitans with a large dungeon.

Some researchers believe that the Metropolitan Chambers were built on the site of a princely palace, although this has not been confirmed by physical evidence. Today, the Ancient Halych History Museum is located here.
