Apple Vision Pro headset will have a state-of-the-art modem: details

The new Apple Vision Pro will have a specially designed modem chip. Apple will improve the design and extend the technology to other devices. The chip will also make its debut in the iPhone SE 2025, iPad, and iPhone 17 Air.

In a report on plans for its internal modem, Apple discusses cellular support for future Vision Pro models. The details were reported by MacRumors.

According to Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg columnist, the first version of the modem chip will have a slower connection to 6 GHz 5G, but the second-generation model will support higher mmWave 5G speeds.

The third-generation version in 2027 may even be better than Qualcomm's technology. Apple's first 5G chip is unlikely to be used in the Vision Pro headset, but second- or third-generation versions could be integrated into the Vision Pro as well as future Macs.

In the future, Apple may also add its special modem chip to augmented reality glasses, but this product will have to wait a few years before it is released.

Apple's ultimate goal is to phase out Qualcomm 5G modem chips and replace them with its own modem chips. Apple plans to test the modem technology first on smaller volumes and cheaper products.

The first version of the modem chip is more integrated with other components developed by Apple. It will be inferior in quality to Qualcomm's 5G. Apple's modem chips, which will appear in 2026 and 2027, will be of higher quality.

Experts say that the company will eventually be able to combine the A and M series with its own modem chips, which will lead to the development of a single component that will be integrated into all Apple gadgets.

It is currently known that the second generation of the Vision Pro headset is likely to appear in 2025.

There are rumors on the web that Apple is developing a cheaper version of Vision Pro, which will have more affordable components.
