Information about the possible release of the Apple Smart Ring appeared in the press earlier this year, right after a similar announcement from Samsung. The South Korean brand launched its product in July this year. The Americans also filed a patent for a similar gadget.
The smart ring is intended for those users who are uncomfortable wearing smartwatches or smart bracelets. The high-tech jewelry is worn on the finger and helps to monitor physical activity and some health indicators of its owner. In addition, such a ring can notify you of incoming messages or calls. The disadvantages of the device include the lack of a screen - it transmits all data exclusively to the smartphone.
Apple analyzed what the development of its own smart ring could bring and concluded that it could create unwanted competition for the Apple Watch. The jewelry is able to duplicate all the main functions of the gadget and not bring profit to the company, as it will potentially cost less than the watch.
Besides, the smart ring segment is still quite small. The American tech giant doubts that there will be sufficient demand for such devices. Therefore, Apple is currently planning to focus on the development of the new Apple Watch.
Meanwhile, Samsung reports show that demand for the Galaxy Ring has actually exceeded initial expectations. In addition, competing gadgets began to appear on the market. Therefore, analysts do not exclude that Cupertino developers will eventually return to the idea of creating a smart ring.
