The American company Apple is developing Smart Home Push doorbell with Face ID support. It will connect to the smart lock and unlock it using the camera and face scanning system known to iPhone owners.

This was reported by Bloomberg. Its journalist Mark Gurman emphasized that the Smart Home Push is still under development and its release should not be expected before 2026.

"After suffering some setbacks in 2024, including a canceled car project and the muted response to its Vision Pro headset, Apple Inc. is heading into the new year with three growth opportunities in mind: artificial intelligence, robotics and the smart home," he said.

The smart doorbell is planned to work with third-party HomeKit locks, but Apple may also partner with other brands to offer an all-in-one solution.

"Work on the doorbell is still in the early stages, though. I’m told not to expect anything to come to market before the end of next year at the soonest. If it ultimately debuts, I expect it to make good use of the company’s upcoming Proxima wireless chip and its secure enclave feature, which helps protects customers’ data," he said.

Although the likelihood that Apple's Face ID system will be unlocked by the wrong person is very low, there is always a chance that the technology could malfunction and let an intruder into the house. Therefore, it is noted that Apple developers will have to solve this problem before launching the next product.

Gurman writes that such a system may well compete with the leading brands in this area, such as Amazon Ring and Google Nest.

It is also reported that in 2025, Apple will release an update for existing home devices: the set-top box and the HomePod mini smart speaker. This means an addition of an advanced wireless chip called Proxima, which should improve support for the new Thread standard for wireless connection of products in the home.

In addition, the company is developing several other related products, including a home security camera designed to work with its center.

"Apple believes it has an edge in this area because of its long-stated commitment to privacy. The thinking is that consumers will trust it more than rivals with in-home security footage. The service also could help Apple sell subscriptions to iCloud, where customers would store the video. People also tend to buy several cameras when they’re securing their house, so this is an easy way to add new revenue," the author of the publication noted.

As reported, Apple is expected to show interesting new devices at the January presentation, the most anticipated of which is the MacBook Air with the M4 chip. Analysts also say that the company plans to release two new iPad Air models - 11-inch and 13-inch.
