Apple has presented a new iPhone 16E smartphone: all the details and photos

The long-awaited presentation of Apple's new low-cost smartphone has taken place. The device, called iPhone16e, will soon become available for purchase.

OBOZ.UA analyzed the technical characteristics of the novelty published on the Apple website. We tell you what the gadget will look like and what its price will be.

The new iPhone 16E finally ends the era of the physical "Home" button in Apple smartphones. The Touch ID sensor is also a thing of the past. The new device works with Face ID technology, is powered by the A18 chip, and boasts an updated design and a set of Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence tools.

The smartphone, which is called the most budget-friendly in Apple's lineup, is a kind of continuation of the iPhone SE line. However, the design of the device has been updated and now meets the standards of the main iPhone series. It is based on the 2022 iPhone 14 series. However, instead of the Dynamic Island, as in the flagship models, it has a Face ID notch.

Another fundamental difference between the iPhone 16E and the SE series is its increased size. It has a 6.1-inch OLED screen. This is not much different from the regular iPhone 16. Those who need a compact device are advised to wait for the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to be released in the fall. It is rumored to be smaller and lighter than the standard model.

The new iPhone 16E has an Action Button that can be customized to your liking. However, it doesn't have the Camera Control like the iPhone 16 series. Instead, it came with a universal USB-C port rather than the proprietary Lightning port.

The A18 chipset on which the device is built is also used in the iPhone 16. It provides the power needed to use Apple Intelligence, making the "junior" model one of the most powerful of all the manufacturer's smartphones.

Apple has previously stated that 8 GB of RAM is the minimum requirement for Apple Intelligence support in the iPhone 16 series. This suggests that the iPhone 16E is equipped with no less. The basic storage capacity of the device has also been increased from 64 GB to 128 GB.

The novelty has only one camera – 48 megapixels. It is located on the rear panel. Reviewers consider this to be the biggest drawback of the smartphone. At the same time, it offers wireless charging and protection against dust and water.

Interestingly, the iPhone 16E was the first to have a modem developed by Apple itself, rather than purchased from a third-party manufacturer Qualcomm. It took the tech giant more than a year to create its own modem. The buyers of the new smartphone will see how successful it was. Currently, there is no exact data on this. If all goes well, it makes sense to expect Apple's modems on all iPhone 17s.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16E will open on February 20. The cheapest model will cost $599. This is significantly more expensive than the iPhone SE 2022, which could be purchased for $429. The novelty will go on sale on February 28.
