On Monday, June 10,  Apple unveiled iOS 18, the next major update to its iPhone operating system. It will include new features for customizing the home screen, a redesigned Photos app, and more.

This was reported on the official Apple website. iOS 18 will also introduce Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that "combines the power of generative models with personal context" to provide useful and relevant information.

The iOS 18 update includes new customization tools for the Home screen. App icons now have a dark mode, and users will be able to color-code them to create a unique look. Apps can also be freely placed anywhere on the Home screen.

The Photos app has been completely redesigned, with a grid of photos at the top displaying the entire library and collections organized by topic below. Users can use the "Months" and "Years" sections at the bottom, and there is a filter button that allows them to hide screenshots and sort them in other ways.

The space below the grid contains thematic collections, including Time, People, Memories, Travel, and more. Recent Days displays photos from the last few days, People & Pets now includes photos of groups of people, and you can rearrange or pin collections.

In Messages, the design of the buttons has been changed and users can now respond with any emoji. Users can also schedule messages to be sent later, format text in bold, italics, underline, and strikethrough. New text effects allow users to emphasize words and phrases with automatic suggestions. Users can now also send and receive messages via satellite connection.

In Mail, emails are automatically sorted by category to help you prioritize messages. In Maps, new topographic maps with a network of trails and hiking routes have been added. In Wallet, the new Tap to Cash feature allows you to send and receive Apple Cash by simply holding two iPhone devices side by side.
