An area as large as 300 football fields: the world's largest ice city with huge frozen skyscrapers opened in China

"Disneyland on Ice" is the name of the world's largest ice and snow festival. It is held in the Chinese city of Harbin. It is spread over an area of about three hundred football fields, which is almost 186 thousand square meters. The festival annually presents ice and snow sculptures of various scales: from small statues to skyscrapers.

China's Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival is a family-friendly, fun-filled dreamland filled with intricate, award-winning designs, The Sun reports.

The city of Harbin is divided into two parts by the river, where the festival takes place: Ice and Snow World and Sun Island. The first zone is mostly open at night. It is home to illuminated skyscrapers. On the other side of the river, on the Island of the Sun, the festival is open around the clock and features many giant snow sculptures. Each block used to create the statues weighs several hundred kilograms.

This year, the organizers also added a tall observation wheel in the shape of a snowflake so that visitors can watch the winter wonderland from above. In particular, the festival has established itself as one of the best winter entertainments in the world and attracts approximately 28.7 million yuan (150 billion hryvnias) a year.

In particular, Harbin offers an exhibition of ice lanterns, as well as the opportunity to participate in winter sports such as downhill skiing, swimming, and cycling on ice. There are also mazes, and people can start snowball wars or go down ice slides.

Harbin is located in the northeast of China and has a cold climate with annual lows of -35 degrees. In this city, the festival originated half a century ago, in 1963, as part of a traditional ice lantern show, but quickly turned into a majestic "Disneyland," The Sun writes.

Earlier in 2014, a snow sculptor recreated the New York Empire State Building, and in 2018, a breathtaking 31-meter-high ice tower in the shape of a flamenco dancer was created.
